Interact with your audience with new Community posts
As a YouTube creator, you're always looking to strengthen your relationship with your audience. That's why we've created the Community tab, a fun new way to share your creativity and complement your upload schedule, all while interacting with your audience on YouTube.
A fun new way to engage with your audience
Increase engagement with your audience by posting to the Community tab. You can share a behind-the-scenes photo, a sneak preview GIF, or your favorite YouTube video for all audiences to see--subscribers and those not subscribed too. You can even poll your viewers. Community posts are a great complement to your regular upload schedule and keep your audience coming back for more. Viewers can click ‘Subscribe’ directly from Community posts too--which can help drive channel growth.
The Community tab is only available to some channels at this time. If your Community tab is enabled, it will appear on your channel when you’re signed in. Find out more.
You can use the Community tab to:
- Ask your audience for input on your next video with a poll.
- Tease the best moment from a recently uploaded video by sharing a GIF.
- Promote your favorite YouTube videos, merchandise, tour tickets, and more.

Turn the Community tab into your channel hubThe Young Turks use their Community tab to highlight their live streams, promote ticket sales to events, cross-promote between channels, and much more. It helps keep their subscribers informed and interested in returning to their channel. If your channel has a lot of moving parts, you can use the Community tab to keep everything organized while engaging with your fans.
Share something personal with your viewersgrav3yardgirl embraced her community during Hurricane Harvey. Posting from Texas, she thanked everyone for their well wishes and let them know she remained “strong and sassy.” The Community tab lets you go beyond your regular programming to share something personal and bond with your audience.
Tell your audience about the Community tab
Both subscribers and viewers not subscribed to your channel can see what you post on your Community tab. As this is a new feature, most viewers may not initially go to the Community tab on your channel--they’ll see your Community posts on the Home feed or in their subscriptions feed on their mobile device, if subscribed. For non-subscribers, there’s a ‘Subscribe’ button to Subscribe directly from the Community post, so in this way posts can actually drive subs growth.
It can be helpful to introduce the Community tab to your viewers with a short video or introductory post so that they know where these posts are coming from. Get started by visiting ‘My channel’ and selecting the Community tab, then take your pick of ways to post.
Just like having a video upload schedule can consistently bring your audience back to your channel, creating a posting schedule for the Community tab can also help drive traffic back to your channel on a regular basis. Remember, subscribers see Community posts in their subscriptions feed, so be sure your posting and upload schedules are aligned and provide value to your audience.
- Let your audience know about this new feature! You can explain to them that they’ll start seeing pictures, polls, GIFs, etc. in their Subscriptions feed.
- Try linking out to your Community tab in the video description and with end cards so that it’s easy for your audience to find.
5 ways to kickstart your Community tab
- Poll to learn what your audience wants to see next: You can quiz your viewers on what they want to see next and consider refining your content based on their suggestions. Community input may help you decide where to invest your time, producing more types of videos that your community requests.
- Grow excitement with GIFs: Consider offering a sneak peek of the best moments from each video with a GIF and get your audience fired up to watch.
- Bring them backstage: Give your viewers an exclusive look backstage during your tour or at a shoot by posting pictures or quick videos. You can even ask for their opinion on the creative process. Hint: Try using photos with yourself clearly visible so viewers recognize you.
- Offer exclusive content: Try posting pictures or GIFs that your audience can’t find anywhere else. Consider posting fun pics of your day, your adventures, or even your pets. Providing a unique experience for your audience on the Community tab is a great way to keep your audience coming back for more.
- Recognize your fans: Utilize the Community tab as another place for interacting with your audience. Consider featuring your “super” fans, calling out to them, or answering their top questions. Plus, you can heart comments from viewers, or reply to them with images and GIFs.
Some ideas to try out:
- Promote videos uploaded to your secondary channel.
- Tag eligible YouTube channels, giving viewers a new way to discover other creators.
- Thank your most loyal fans or even call out some of their special contributions.
